Emily’s Basic Makeup Routine

Can you tell I love Benefit? I recently changed up a few of my products. The Porefessional face primer is the #1 primer right now and I agree! I discovered the foundation and powder on my most recent trip to Ulta after talking to one of the Benefit girls. She recommended these products and they are perfect for my skin! The foundation from Benefit lets your skin breathe and provides good coverage while still being lightweight. The powder from Urban Decay matches my skin tone better then any powder I’ve ever used and makes it super soft. The eyeliner from Eyeko I got in a Birchbox months ago and it’s been my favorite eyeliner ever since. The perfect cateye pen and the finish is a super dark matte black. I’ve been using Benefits Badgal lash longer then any other makeup product and while I do like their newest mascara, They’re Real, this will always be my favorite. You can purchase these products for yourself following the links below!

  2.  Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow foundation
  3. Urban Decay Naked Skin
  4. Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner

Sarah's Basics

Sarah’s Basics

I love sleep and I don’t like to sacrifice it for anything! I keep my beauty routine pretty simple in the mornings so that I can sleep in as late as possible! A good primer is essential to make your skin look smooth and your complexion look even. I’m a big fan of Smashbox’s Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Foundation Primer. It feels great on my skin and makes it look flawless! I use L’Oreal’s liquid foundation because I was able to find the perfect color to match my skin tone and it goes on very lightly. I don’t like to feel like I’m wearing a lot of makeup so a weightless foundation is key. I discover Escaped’s Cindy-Lou Manizer through Birchbox and I AM OBSESSED. It is the perfect highlighter! Brushing a bit of this on in the morning gives me a glowing complexion and makes me look awake (even though I’m probably not). I’ve tried several different brands of blush over the years, but I instantly fell in love with Bare Mineral’s The Natural High. It’s just a really great color and it looks wonderful on many different skin tones. It’s also very long lasting! Estee Lauder’s Sumptuous Extreme mascara is just that; sumptuous. It does wonderful, magical things for my eyelashes. I’ve tried tons of different mascara brands and this has been my favorite, hands down. I’m never going back. You can purchase these products for yourself following the links below!

  1. Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Foundation Primer
  2. L’oreal True Match Foundation
  3. Escaped Cindy-Lou Manizer

Benefit Skincare

Emily here for my first post after a long time and I’m so excited to share my new obsession with Benefit’s skincare line. I discovered this by accident really. I didn’t go into Ulta looking for new skincare products, I went in looking for a foundation that won’t make my face look greasy at the end of the day. But after talking to one of the amazing sales people I realized I needed more of a regular skincare routine and something much gentler because my skin was actually overproducing oil after the harsh cleansers I was using and not enough moisture.

Not only are all the products packaged flawlessly but they actually have made a huge difference in the way my skin looks. I’m so glad I finally invested in a nicer skincare line. I first bought the travel kit for $24 which included 2 different cleansers, a night time and day time moisturizer, a toner, and an eye cream. I quickly bought the full sized versions of the Foamingly Clean facial wash and the Moisture Prep toning lotion. I’ll be buying the Triple Preforming facial emulsion as soon as the travel sized one runs out. There are other products in the line that I definitely want to try like the facial sunscreen and facial rehydrating mist.

There are 2 other products from Benefit that I’m loving right now! The POREfessional: Agent Zero Shine as well as the POREfessional face primer, both do an amazing job of keeping me shine free all day! I’m sure you’ll be hearing about those again from me! I definitely can’t get enough of Benefit right now (or their rainbow blow-up Sharks they have on display in store.) Now if only I could decided which foundation I like better!

Sarah: This pore minimizing formula from Benefit is great! I’m definitely planning on buying the full sized version. It goes on super smoothly and not only minimizes the appearance of pores, but also reduces redness. I’ve always had great experience with Benefit products and this one is no exception!

Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo

Perk Up Dry Shampoo

Sarah: I was super excited when I received this sample because it’s the perfect purse sized dry shampoo! Amir’s dry shampoo is great, but I am personally partial to the Dove brand of dry shampoo. I was happy to get this sample, but I will continue to buy the $4 Dove product. The full sized Amika Dry shampoo is $21.

Parlor by Jeff Chastain Moisturizing Sea Salt Spray

Parlor by Jeff Chastain

Moisturizing Sea Salt Spray

Emily: This product was super featured for last months Birchbox since this is a new company for them and I was so disappointed that I didn’t get this sample last month. It has such great reviews and I really wanted to try it and I was not disappointed! This sea salt spray gives my hair a little extra bounce and wave when I want the perfect mermaid curls. It smells lovely and keeps my hair soft while still holding the style! I’ll definitely be getting this product!

Benefit Lollibalm

Lollibalm

Emily: Benefit never lets me down. While I wish this was a warmer pink so it looked better on my skin tone I really liked this lip balm! I’m usually a lipstick girl but this provided me with amazing moisture that lasts all day. The bubblegum pink tint is sheer enough that I will still keep using it, I may buy the full size Benebalm (the same product only a deeper red) instead!

Beauty Routines: Haircare

Today The Babes will be going over their typical haircare routines and discussing some of their favorite products!

Sarah’s Haircare Products

1. Kenneth’s Lighten Up Conditioner

2. Kenneth’s Maximum Volume Shampoo

3. L’Oreal Blow Dry It Quick Dry Primer Spray

4. Big Sexy Hair Play & Spray

5. Dove Dry Shampoo

Sarah: My hair is naturally straight, very fine (though I have a lot of it), and tends to get oily quickly. If I want to feel confident in my hair’s appearance I have to shower and wash it every single day. Since my hair has very little natural volume, I like to start each day with a little boost from my shampoo! I get my hair cut at Kenneth’s Salon and I’ve found that their line of products really are best for my hair. Kenneth’s Maximum Volume Shampoo gives my hair that little something extra, especially when I follow it up with their Lighten Up Conditioner. This stuff is awesome. It smells wonderful and leaves my hair feeling soft and clean. I don’t know about you, but I absolutely hate blow drying my hair! Unfortunately, for me it is a daily chore. This new blow dry primer from L’Oreal has made my routine much easier and quicker. Normally it would take me about five minutes to dry my hair, but with this product it only takes two and it doubles as a heat protectant. I really only use hair spray if I’m pinning part of my hair back or curling it, but when I do use it I use Play & Spray by Big Sexy Hair. It holds all day while still allowing for a lot of movement! I tried tons of different dry shampoos before I found Dove’s and now I am loyally committed to this brand! I use dry shampoo everyday whether my hair is greasy or not. Even on a normal day when I get up, shower, blow dry and straighten my hair I still like to spray a bit of dry shampoo on my roots. It goes a long way towards preventing my hair from getting oily throughout the day and helps to add a little extra volume. Also, it’s only $3.99 per can! Dove’s dry shampoo is hands down the best one on the market and gives you the best bang for your buck.

Emily’s Haircare Products

  1. Garnier Fructis Full Control Anti Humidity Hairspray
  1. Amika Nourishing Mask
  1. Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle
  1. Lush Squeaky Green Shampoo Bar
  1. Dove Dry Shampoo

Emily: I have super thick and puffy hair that doesn’t get greasy very often so I typically only wash it about once or twice a week. I either wear it down and use my curling wand to give myself mermaid waves or I wear it up in a bun or two. I love using Lush’s Shampoo bars which you can find my previous review of here! I then use an amazing hair mask that I found through Birchbox from Amika. It smells amazing and is super moisturizing, which I need since I don’t wash my hair often! Since my hair is so thick, even when I use a hair mask I still need something to help me detangle. This detangler from Beauty Protector, that I also discovered through Birchbox, is perfect. It smells divine and does an awesome job at detangling my mane without weighing my hair down! When I curl my hair I usually leave it that way for about 3 days. I use a curling wand (best invention ever!) and layers of this Garnier Fructis hairspray, which I’ve been using for as long as I can remember, to create the desired effect. It holds all day, isn’t sticky, and even battles humidity! And last but not least Dove’s dry shampoo is perfect for the second or third hair day. It gives your hair a refreshing boost without looking chalky. Sarah actually introduced me to it!

Sarah: I probably wouldn’t have chosen this color for myself when shopping for lipstick, but I was pleasantly surprised with how it looked on me! It also smells like strawberries, which was a lovely surprise! It does create a nice matte finish, but isn’t super long lasting. If you’re looking for a fun, short-wear lip color this would be perfect!

Sarah: At first I thought that this was a dry shampoo, but after using it i’ve decided that it’s somewhere between dry shampoo and hairspray. I don’t use a ton of products in my hair, but this spray does add a playful bounce when applied at the end of styling. I probably won’t be purchasing the full sized product, but it was fun to experiment with!

Sarah: This stuff is awesome! It smells absolutely fantastic and leaves my hair feeling silky smooth! I’ve tried a lot of similar products, but this one has been my favorite so far. It feels very luxurious!

Micheal Todd Pumpkin Nutrient-Rich Facial Mask

Michael Todd

Pumpkin Nutrient-Rich Facial Mask

I was super apprehensive to try this product at first. I am not a fan of pumpkin in general. I was a little surprised by the fact that it smells and feels like you are putting actual mashed up pumpkin all over your face. It definitely makes your skin feel lovely afterwards but I wont be buying the full size version of this product. If you like pumpkin I definitely suggest this!

Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Heat Spray

Oscar Blandi

Dry Styling Heat Protect Spray

When I’m not wearing my hair in a bun on top of my head I curl it with a super hot curling wand! I don’t use any kind of heat protecting spray (I know I should) so I was excited to get this product and try it! I’ve used it in 2 different ways since I’ve received it. I sprayed a little of it in my damp hair before blow drying it one morning and I didn’t really notice much of a difference. I tried it again while curling my hair, spraying a little on each individual strand. It definitely helped protect my hair from the heat and it made it super shiny and healthy looking!

Nelson J Beverly Hills Argan Oil 7 Moisture Healing Mask

Nelson J Beverly Hills

Argan Oil 7 Moisture Healing Mask

This hair mask smells so heavenly. I’ve used a bunch of different similar products before and this one from Nelson J Beverly Hills is not one that I’m going to use forever but it does do a good job! In the directions it says you can put it in your hair before getting in a pool or water to protect it from chemicals and dirt. I’m excited to try that this summer at my parents pool but I think I’ll stick with my hair mask from Amika for regular use.

Jules & Esther Cucumber Eye Gel

Jules & Esther Cucumber Eye Gel

Jules & Esther

Cucumber Eye Gel

Emily: I haven’t been getting a ton of sleep recently so my eyes have had some serious bags. This amazing cucumber eye gel from Jules & Esther has pretty much changed my life. When I apply it, my eyes instantly feel less puffy and extremely refreshed. It reduces the redness and bags under my eyes. It’s a little bit sticky when you first apply it, but once it dries completely you can apply your usual skincare and makeup. This product also battles and prevents wrinkles! I’ve never been much of an eye cream or gel kind of person, but this amazing product is one I may have to invest in once I use up my sample!

Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner

Emily: I was a little skeptical about this eyeliner when I received it. My eyes water a lot and when I’ve used eyeliner pens before my liner ends up running everywhere, but this product stays! I love the stiff pointed applicator because it allows you to create perfect thin or thick lines with precision. It glides on smoothly and has an opaque, velvety finish. This is a great eyeliner to create a cat-eye look for novices and experts!

Amika Nourishing Mask

Amika Nourishing Mask

Amika

Nourishing Mask

Emily: I have super-thick hair so I always use a leave-in conditioner spray to detangle and moisturize my hair. I absolutely love this hair mask from Amika. I washed my hair 2 nights ago and used this product and my hair is still so soft, but it doesn’t look greasy from the extra product. I left it in my hair for about 5 minutes, rinsed it out, and I didn’t even need to use any other product to detangle!

Sarah: This product is a nourishing hair mask that conditions and repairs with “super fruit sea buckthorn berry”. My hair gets oily quickly so I’m always hesitant to try treatments such as this, but this is a great product! You apply it to your hair while damp and then wait 5-10 minutes to rinse it out. I went we 5 minutes because as I said I am often hesitant of products such as this. After rinsing the mask out my hair felt super soft and light. The product didn’t add any weight or greasiness to my hair. And it smells great!

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet

Caudalie

Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet

Sarah: This product is a gel facial cream that is derived from antioxidant-rich grapes. It is intended to hydrate the skin and reduce redness. I’ve never used a gel facial cream before and I wasn’t a huge fan of this product. It does help to slightly reduce redness, but doesn’t leave my skin feeling fresh and soft. Instead it left my skin feeling slightly filmy. Yuck!

Evologie Intensive Blemish Serum

Evologie Intensive Blemish Serum

Evologie

Intensive Blemish Serum

Sarah: This is by far my favorite product from this month’s Birchbox! This intensive blemish serum is meant to be applied twice daily either just to blemished areas or to the entire face. I noticed a difference as soon as I applied Evologie’s serum! It seriously reduces pore size and redness of blemishes. I already plan on buying the full sized version!

Manna Kadar Liplocked Priming Gloss Stain in All of You

Manna Kadar Liplocked

Priming Gloss Stain

All of You

Emily: I’m not usually much of a lipgloss girl, I prefer my brightly colored matte lipstick over a shiny gloss, but I will say that I love this product! I didn’t think the color was going to look good on me, but I have been looking for a good almost-nude lip color and this is exactly what I have been needing! The color on me is a pinkish nude, slightly darker than my bare lips. It’s not super shiny which is why I like it a lot, it’s moisturizing, and stays on for a long time for a lipgloss. All-in-all I’m pleased with this product and with Birchbox’s ability to provide products that I love.

Whish Body Butter

Whish Body Butter

Whish

Body Butter

Emily: I’ve received several samples from this brand before and I always love them! This body butter is super moisturizing and is a lovely lavender scent. It’s thick and doesn’t leave a greasy residue like some lotions do.

Sarah: I really love the small size of the Birchbox samples because I can just throw them in my purse & take them anywhere! This one is no exception! It’s an incredibly moisturizing lotion, but it wears very lightly and doesn’t leave a sticky or greasy residue on your skin. This sample has a nice lavender scent, but it is also available in almond, blueberry, pomegranate, lemongrass, coconut, & acai grapefruit.

Sarah: This is a two-in-one lip and cheek stain. I was kind of intimidated by this product at first because I had never used a liquid product on my cheeks, but I love it! On my lips, this stain adds just a hint of rosy color, which is nice when I don’t want to wear a heavy lipstick. On my cheeks, it creates a nice blush that lasts all day! This product kills two birds with one stone and I especially love it when I’m in a hurry and need to finish my look quickly.
